*Age is determined by actual age as of January 1st of the competition year
To reach the average age of the entry, add all of the ages together and divide by the number of dancers in the entry. When averaging ages, always DROP THE DECIMAL POINT. For example, if a routine averages to an age 10.7, you would drop the decimal, therefore, the routine would compete in the 8-10 yr. old category.
Routines that utilize dancers from different age divisions will compete no more than one age division younger than the oldest dancer in the routine, regardless of the routine’s average age. Example: if a production number includes a 17 year old dancer (senior) and the average age of the routine is 12 (junior), the group will compete one level above in the teen category.

COMPETITION DIVISIONS

COMPETITIVE
Entries compete against other routines for critiques, awards, and prizes.
SHOWCASE

SPECIAL AWARDS

BEST OF STREETZ

A select few Streetz Star, Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior routines will be chosen, by consensus of the judges, to receive the Best of Streetz Award. Best of Streetz Awards are presented to the routines that the judges wanted to honor for any reason including that they thought the routine was the most entertaining, most technical, or best costuming. Depending on each studio's overall results, some Best of Streetz routines may be asked to re-perform in the Closing Show. Each Best of Streetz award winner receives free entry to compete that dance at the current year's Streetz National Finals.

STREETZ CHOICE

The best number from each studio will be chosen, by consensus of the judges, to perform in the weekend's Closing Show. Routines chosen for Streetz Choice will be the top scoring routines from the studios that qualify for this award.

To be eligible for the Streetz Choice Award, a studio must have entered at least 10 entries (a minimum of 5 must be group routines. Group routines are 4+ dancers in the dance) into the competition and the routine must have scored a platinum or higher. Each Streetz Choice Award routine must be a Group, Line, Extended Line or Production.

Each Streetz Choice Award winner receives free entry to compete that dance at the current year's Streetz National Finals.

Streetz Choice Award Winners will be announced at the last awards session of competition. Studios will be notified by 12pm the performance order for the closing show.

BEST OF CITY

This award is given to the highest scoring group routine of the entire competition. Two of these awards will be given out. One to the highest scoring group with the average age of the dancers being 12 and under and another given to the highest scoring routine with the average age of the dancers being 13 and up.

Winners of this award receive a $500 competition credit the be used at the current years National Finals and another $500 competition credit to next seasons tour. In order to redeem the $500 competition credit to Nationals, the dance that won Best of City MUST be registered. The Nationals competition credit cannot be applied to Dancer of the Year fees.

COMPETITION SCHEDULING

Friday competition start times may vary. Friday competition typically starts at 8 AM and begins with solos. After completing the solo competition it is possible, but not guaranteed we will move into other routines such as duo/trio and groups. If any routine that is scheduled on Friday is unable to perform due to school, Streetz will provide a full refund for those routines. Another rare circumstance could be holding a portion of the competition on Thursday starting no earlier than 5pm. If this happens and a routine decides not to perform, a full refund will be issued.

PROP REQUIREMENTS

Streetz welcomes general props to our competition! However, the use of props is the sole responsibility of the studio. Props must be placed and removed from the stage within 2 minutes by the studio. After the 2 minutes is up, a 30 second grace period will begin. If the prop is not set after 2 minutes and 30 seconds, a .5 point will be deducted. This .5 point deduction will continue every 30 seconds until the prop is placed and dancers are set on stage. It is also the studio’s responsibility to ensure the stage is left clean and clear following their performance. Teachers, dancers and parents are more than welcome to help with props as long as the judges cannot see any studio affiliation. Please refrain from using fire or helium balloons as well as props being thrown into the judges area and/or audience. Streetz cannot guarantee props over 10’h will fit on the stage. No paint or liquids can be used as props. If you are unsure about the use or size of your prop, please contact Streetz for approval before registering your routine.

FAMILY FRIENDLY ROUTINES

Throughout the entirety of every routine that performs on our stage, Streetz expects all dancing, costuming, and music selection to be age appropriate adhering to our family friendly atmosphere. Being that all of these issues are subjective Streetz competition staff and judges reserve the right to deduct points or even disqualify routines that are deemed inappropriate. If points are deducted or a routine is disqualified for inappropriateness, this will be addressed and explained to the Studio on their score sheets.

MUSIC GUIDELINES

All competition music should be uploaded to the registration system no later than 2 weeks before the event date.  Dances without music uploaded 2 weeks prior to event will be removed from the competition and replaced by those on the waiting list. To upload, log into your studio account and click the upload music button on the dashboard.

Please remember to have a backup readily available if there is an issue with the music. Sometimes the best backup is to have a ipod, usb drive, phone, or computer that we can plug in and make sure the song plays.

If you have any questions about how to upload the music into the registration system, please contact us directly at 409-356-7844.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY

Photography and Videoing during competition are strictly prohibited. This includes ALL still photography, with or without flash. This is to protect the rights of the choreographer as well as your children’s safety, and to make it possible for Streetz to offer a professional photography and video service. Any violations can result in routine and/or studio being disqualified. All professional photos and videos of your routines may be purchased directly through Shutter Storm's website which you can access HERE and on your individual city page.

LIVESTREAM

At Streetz, we livestream our entire competition, awards ceremonies, and closing show for each event. With that being said, the safety and privacy of our dancers, families, and choreographers are our top priorities. To ensure a secure viewing experience our livestream is password protected. The measure helps us maintain a safe and professional environment for all participants. The password will be shared before the next event directly to studio emails and included in the welcome packet at the event. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at info@thestreetzdance.com

JUDGING

The judges may choose to move a number into a different category (example, from Open to Jazz, etc.) based on dance style, The Streetz rules, etc. There are no penalties or deduction when this occurs.  The decision of the judges is final.

In the event that the judging system or microphones go out during a dance number, Streetz is not liable to give a full refund.

Score sheets and video critiques will be uploaded to your studio accounts no later than Tuesday after the event. Printed score sheets are available upon request.

POINT DEDUCTIONS

Appropriateness: Up to 5 points - disqualified

If a judge questions the appropriateness of a routine,  up to 5 points per judge may be deducted. If all 3 judges question a routines appropriateness, the routine may be disqualified from the competition

Running off the stage mid-routine: 3 points

If a dancer runs off stage mid-routine, 3 points will automatically be deducted from the overall score of the routine. This does not apply in cases where a dancers runs off for reasons such as injury, sudden illness, or music malfunction.

Jumping off the front of the stage or dancing on the ground in front of the stage: 3 points

Dancers that jump off the front of the stage or dance on the ground in front of the stage will automatically have 3 points deducted from the overall score of the routine. Both of these actions may jeopardize the safety of the dancer due to the area in front of the stage not having the same lighting that is on the stage as well as the ground being multiple feet from the stage.

Backstage Conduct: 10 points

A 10-point deduction will be taken from your score for misconduct in the dressing room and/or the backstage area.

Prop Placement Timing: .5 points or more

Props must be placed and removed from the stage within 2 minutes by the studio. After the 2 minutes is up, a 30 second grace period will begin. If the prop is not set after 2 minutes and 30 seconds, a .5 point will be deducted. This .5 point deduction will continue every 30 seconds until the prop is placed and dancers are set on stage.

One Shoe: Up to .5 point per judge

Judges understand that there can be a variety of opinions when it comes to stage presentation. Each judge’s viewpoint is often shaped by their own professional background and experiences. For Streetz, stage presentation is crucial, and we believe it should reflect the high standards expected of professional dancers—much like those seen on a Broadway stage or in a concert performance. Some Streetz judges may deduct .5 points if they follow the two shoes or no shoes belief.
